Job Description
This is a fantastic opportunity to apply for an exciting position at the Environment Agency. This is a great place to work if you want to make a difference in improving our environment and building a sustainable future. We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Adviser to join our growing national Strategy team. The team leads our future thinking for the organisation. It’s responsible for developing and implementing a future focused organisational strategy that resonates with staff, customers and partners; and then designing and implementing strategies to deliver that future. The strategy is fundamental to achieving our core mission; creating better places for people and wildlife, and to delivering our long term goals.
Alongside this the team delivers cross-cutting projects, working closely with different teams and departments, helping to lead the organisation through important milestones such as spending reviews. Projects include a mix of longer term priorities and short term sprints to tackle topical issues. You will be leading and supporting the delivery of these projects.
You’ll have sound strategic thinking, an ability to see the bigger picture and a skill for making links between different contexts and strategies. You’ll be adept at translating evidence into workable recommendations which drive tangible improvements and outcomes. You’ll have strong communication skills and an ability to construct persuasive arguments from the evidence.
Experience of managing strategic projects and the use of project management tools and techniques would be an advantage.
The team
You’ll be working withing the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance (STA) Directorate reporting to our Director of Strategy. STA is at the heart of the Environment Agency. Its passionate and skilled people provide national-once services to enable our organisation to thrive.
The Strategy Team relies on strong networking and influencing skills, working with others internally and externally. You will support and drive the team, embedding new ways of thinking and working across the organisation.
Experience/skills Required
Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. Further information on incident response can be found within your candidate pack.
The role location is nationally flexible, with a requirement for some national travel and occasional overnight stays.
Interviews will be held virtually over MS Teams in December (date tbc).
