Pell Frischmann is seeking to appoint Seasonal Field Ecologists to join their Ecology team in the Luton office from April 2026 until November 2026 to assist with field work and reporting relating to Bat Surveying. Depending on workload at the time there could be the potential to extend or opportunity to transfer to permanent.
Some experience of undertaking bat surveys in the field and desk-based sound analysis is desirable, but not essential, as full training will be provided as part of the role. Works will be primarily associated with a large scale infrastructure project in the Midlands but may also include occasional assistance to the wider ecology team on projects around the UK. As a result you must have your own transport and be able to work Dawn and Dusk surveys.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of tasks incorporating the following elements:
- Undertaking a range of bat surveys including use of thermal and infrared cameras and both handheld and automated detectors.
- Ecological coordination and survey arrangements including survey logistics and access arrangements.
- Monitoring site activities and liaising with the project team to ensure surveys are completed as scheduled and in line with project requirements.
- Sound and video data analysis of data gathered during the surveys
- Report input for the bat surveys undertaken
- Occasional desk-based support for the wider ecology team involving preparation of reports and undertaking data searches.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills that are required to be successful in the role

Qualification
- Under / postgraduate degree in Ecology, Environmental Management or a related discipline
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)
- A current CSCS card or equivalent.
Experience
- Some experience surveying a range of UK habitats and protected species (incl. but not limited to bats, badger, otter, water vole etc.)
- Previous experience of working within an engineering organisation
- Relevant experience in a similar capacity as an Ecological Clerk of Works
Skills
- Full UK driver’s licence.
- Ability to commute to Luton office and sites in the Aylesbury area regularly, or be willing to stay in accommodation (expensed).
- Good knowledge of relevant UK and EU wildlife legislation including conservation of protected species
- Good knowledge of UK bats and their ecology
- Proficient in bat sound analysis
- Competent user of technology for ecological surveying
- Sound knowledge of environmental constraints
- Good knowledge of bat survey methods and health and safety considerations
- Excellent communication skills, in particular an ability to convey ecological / environmental requirements to contractor teams
