The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Seasonal Ecologist to join our Energy Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) team on a 4-month fixed term contract. With shared office space in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Perth, we welcome applications from Ecologists across Scotland.
This is an exciting opportunity to assist with environmental inputs on a variety of road contracts in Scotland, including the Southwest and Northeast Network Management Contract for Transport Scotland, a variety of active travel schemes (e.g., AMIDS Renfrewshire). As a Seasonal Ecologist in Scotland, you will be responsible for supporting protected species surveys, drafting protected species and habitat reports and supporting Senior Ecologists in the team.
The role
Our Seasonal Ecologists play an important part within the ET&S team and alongside our clients. As a Seasonal Ecologist you will provide effective support and assistance to your Senior Ecologist on a variety of ecological schemes.
The role will also include ecological support to regional and national projects to a wide range of public sector clients (Amey currently works with clients in the highways, rail, local authority, central government, aviation, and waste sectors).

What You Will Bring To Us
- A degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science (with a strong ecology focus) or similar/equivalent
- Ability to demonstrate previous experience in a professional ecological consultancy role.
- Qualifying membership of a Professional Body and Chartership such as CIEEM (desirable)
- Working towards Protected species licenses
- Experience in protected species surveys
- Experience in drafting ecological reports; including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Method Statements
- Thorough understanding of UK wildlife legislation
- Health and Safety awareness, especially safe working practices and risk assessment related to ecology fieldwork.
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
- A full UK driving license
