Job Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Scrub Nurse to join our dynamic theatre team. As a key member of the perioperative team, you will play a critical role in supporting surgical procedures by preparing instruments, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing direct assistance to surgeons during operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare the operating theatre and all necessary surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies prior to procedures
  • Scrub in and assist surgeons and other theatre staff during surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile field is maintained
  • Accurately count instruments, swabs, and needles in line with hospital policy and WHO safety standards
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond appropriately during procedures
  • Assist with patient positioning and preparation before surgery
  • Maintain meticulous records of procedures and instruments used
  • Follow infection control, sterilisation, and theatre safety protocols at all times
  • Work collaboratively with anaesthetic and recovery teams to ensure seamless patient care across all perioperative stages
  • Contribute to team meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse (RGN) with NMC registration or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with HCPC registration
  • Demonstrable experience as a scrub nurse in a range of surgical specialities
  • Deep knowledge of surgical safety principles
  • Up-to-date knowledge of clinical standards, procedures, and infection control practices
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and responsive in high-pressure situations

Desirable

  • Experience in the private healthcare sector
  • Additional competencies in specialist areas such as orthopaedics, ophthalmology, or ENT
  • Knowledge of CQC regulations and quality standards
