Research Facilitator and Grants Manager

The Faculty of Law is looking to recruit a Research Facilitator and Grants Manager who, reporting to the Faculty’s Head of Research (Deputy Head of Administration and Finance), will play a key role in regards to research funding applications and research awards administration, including responsibilities over compliance, risk management, financial management and keeping up-to-date with changes in the external funding environment and the Faculty’s research portfolio. They will be responsible for the direct line management of the Research Facilitator (Early Career) and the Research Administrator, and will work closely with the Dean, the Associate Dean(s) for Research, academic staff, the Finance Team, the HR Team and the Managers/Administrators of the Faculty’s associated Centres/Institutes.
The postholder will support funding proposals developed by researchers in the Faculty by advising applicants on funder requirements, budgets, research ethics and data management. The Research Facilitator and Grants Manager will also coordinate collaborative bids involving other departments and/or external organisations and they will have direct responsibility over part of the portfolio of Law Faculty applications. Furthermore, they will allocate funding application tasks and responsibilities among the relevant Research Support team members; ensure the timely and accurate administration of all successful funding applications; act as a source of expert advice to the Manager of the Centre for Sociolegal Studies and to the Manager of the Bonavero Institute, and any other Centre/Institute administrator, in relation to funding applications/awards; support the implementation of any policies/plans resulting from the Faculty’s Proactive Research Strategy and provide forecasts and budgets to the Faculty’s Finance Team.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have knowledge and awareness of Higher Education issues and developments, especially research funding mechanisms and funder terms and conditions; excellent numerical/financial skills and the ability to prepare and manage budgets (including project ledger), and to manipulate and present financial data using spreadsheets; proven communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to gain the confidence of, and to influence, staff at every level, and to advise senior leaders; highly developed IT skills and the ability to use a broad range of computerised systems and data sources to support improved communications, information and data dissemination, and proposal tracking. It would be desirable for candidates to hold a postgraduate degree in the Social Sciences/Humanities (or equivalent) and be familiar with X5 costing software and/or Oracle Financials.
This role is permanent and full time with the postholder based at St Cross Building, St Cross Road, Oxford. The Law Faculty supports hybrid working, the postholder will be required to be on site for at least 40% of their working week.
