We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our friendly and experienced team at Medivet Dorchester 24 Hour, a recently refurbished hospital located just a short drive from the breathtaking Jurassic Coast.
This is a full-time role, covering ideally 40 hours per week across a rotating shift pattern (early and late shifts), with weekend work (on a rota basis) essential to maintain hospital rota coverage. We’re also happy to consider part-time applicants, provided weekend availability remains fixed. This role is ideal for someone looking to make the most of a diverse caseload in a busy, well-equipped hospital, working alongside an outstanding clinical team.
Dorchester 24 Hour is a multi-disciplinary hospital with a strong regional presence, providing out-of-hours cover for five Medivet branches and seven non-Medivet practices. You’ll be part of a vibrant, supportive team that includes certificate holders in diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, dermatology and ECC, with several vets also working towards additional qualifications in surgery.
Our nursing team is central to everything we do. We’re an RCVS-accredited training practice with 24-hour vet and nurse coverage, so you’ll have the opportunity to use your full skillset and learn from others across theatre, diagnostics, emergency care and inpatient nursing. - Digital x-ray and ultrasound
- Endoscopy
- Two sterile surgical suites
- Dedicated in-house laboratory
- Hydrotherapy unit (staffed two days per week)
- Peripatetic physiotherapist

- Separate dog and cat wards, plus ISFM Silver Cat Friendly status
- 24/7 care supported by ECC-certified night vet and nursing team

In This Role You Will
- Consistently deliver exceptional care to your clients.
- Support with surgeries and procedures, completing all pre and post procedure activity.
- Carry out nurse led appointments and schedule 3 activities.
- Deliver patient monitoring and care.
- Manage admissions and discharges as directed by the Veterinary team.
- Complete patient transfers to out of hours or enhanced care.
- Dispense and check medication.
- Deliver professional excellence, complying with all regulatory, practice and operational standards.
- Hold briefings to engage and co-ordinate your team to support the most effective running of the practice.
- RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse.
- Experience of delivering exceptional patient and client care.
- Experienced in working effectively as part of a team.
- Experience of supporting Nurse consults, with an understanding of how this contributes to practice performance and efficiency.
- Experienced in using coaching and influencing skills to get the best out of every colleague.
