Regional Asset Optimisation Engineer

Wessex Water

Date: 11 hours ago
City: Dorchester
Contract type: Full time

We have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Asset Optimisation Engineer to join our Tactical Maintenance and Investment team, helping to drive operational efficiency and sustainability across our regional assets.

If you have a background in engineering, ICA or process optimisation and are passionate about finding smarter, more sustainable ways to work, we want to hear from you!

This is a regionally based role with a mix of office and site work across Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and surrounding areas. Therefore we are accepting applications from anyone based in these areas.

What you'll do

You will be responsible for identifying and delivering operational optimisation projects across our water recycling centres. Working closely with operational teams, engineers, and commercial colleagues, your aim will be to deliver improvements that reduce operating costs while maintaining our high standards of service and compliance.

Your work will directly impact our operating expenditure (OPEX), helping us invest smartly in new solutions and technologies. You'll be managing projects from scoping through to delivery, typically with capital values up to £250,000 on a spend-to-save basis, aiming to deliver at least £300,000 of savings each year.

You'll collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including EM&I, Operations, Science, Health and Saftey, Innovation, Engineering and others to ensure solutions are practical, safe and deliver long-term value. An active on-site presence will be key to ensuring projects meet safety, quality, and programme requirements.

Additionally, you will:

  • define project requirements, scope and objectives
  • undertake programme management of all optimisation projects and ensure all delivery stream avenues are explored to maximise output and savings on OPEX
  • review and replicate previous proven successful delivery across other assets within water recycling, ensuring maximum opportunity for savings is achieved
  • procure and manage contractors
  • work with internal teams to ensure installations are fit for ongoing maintenance and operation
  • contribute and lead a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • compile and analyse data to produce clear, insightful reports and presentations for the Water Recycling Senior Leadership Team and wider stakeholders
  • undertake stakeholder liaison across the company and ensure collaborative engagement is at the forefront of delivery
  • represent water recycling at technical forums and give constructive data-driven feedback to make positive change
  • work with our asset management strategy colleagues to improve our asset maintenance lifecycle with lessons learned, themes and data from optimisation.

What you'll need

You will have a background in engineering, operations, or asset optimisation, with experience managing or delivering technical projects.

You'll be safety-conscious, commercially aware, and able to work across departments to make practical improvements to our asset base.

In addition, you will have:

  • a strong understanding of relevant health and safety and environmental regulations
  • excellent project delivery and stakeholder management skills, which include strong engagement execution
  • a proactive, solutions-focused, open mindset
  • experience working in an operational or engineering environment.

Experience with ICA (Instrumentation, Control and Automation) systems will be highly beneficial. ICA expertise can support the development of data-driven, smart optimisation projects that drive sustainable improvements and unlock new efficiencies.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
