Pupil Support Assistant - Additional Needs

Location: Poole

Salary: £12.82 per hour

Start date: Immediate

Contract: Term-time only

About The Role

As a Pupil Support Assistant, you will be a critical presence in the classroom, helping to create a positive, inclusive environment that supports each student’s unique journey toward reaching their full potential. You will work closely with students, including those with Additional Needs, providing essential support to enhance their learning experiences, well-being and personal development.

Essential Qualities That We Are Looking For

  • Offer intensive support to pupils, particularly those with SEN, to assist in academic, social and behavioural development.
  • Work alongside teachers to plan and implement support strategies tailored to individual needs, ensuring all students are fully engaged and encouraged.
  • Support pupils in overcoming learning challenges, building their confidence and promoting positive behaviours.
  • Assist with classroom activities, helping to manage resources and ensure the learning environment remains safe and organised.
  • Monitor and record pupils’ progress, reporting insights to teachers and other professionals as needed.
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents and carers to foster an inclusive, supportive educational environment for all students.

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Have prior experience working with children with Special Educational Needs.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect positively with students, teachers and families.
  • Have an understanding of SEN best practices and a commitment to supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Possess patience, empathy and resilience, with an adaptable approach to meet the varying demands of the role.
  • Have the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team, with a proactive and solution-focused mindset.

To Be Eligible, You Should

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an updated CV (with two relevant references from the last two years and covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps)
  • An enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
