As a Project Manager within our Operations directorate, you'll plan and manage the delivery of projects, managing the performance of a project team, external contractors and consultants and ensuring adherence to effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards across the supply chain and National Highways. You'll be responsible for ensuring a successful delivery of agreed project outcomes and acting in line with mandatory and delegated responsibilities.

We operate on a hybrid working approach with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office. This role can be based from any of our National Highways offices.

  • Design and agree key project milestones, scope acceptable risks and priorities, ensuring that appropriate governance is in place to achieve success delivery.
  • Manage, lead and motivate Assistant Project Managers, ensuring effective performance is delivered and to support their personal development.
  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Programme Manager, and other key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure full mutual understanding of the projects' strategic and delivery objectives, to report on and review project performance, and to agree solutions that resolve complex issues.
  • Oversee feasibility for proposed projects, to inform the development of business cases and investment proposals.
  • Design, agree and implement project plans, to ensure that all activities are appropriately organised to deliver project objectives, are appropriately resourced to deliver the required outcomes, and comply with locally defined procedures.

About you.

  • Demonstratable experience of managing the development of project plans and detailed stage plans in conjunction with delivery partners.
  • Strong collaborator, to gain the involvement and engagement of a wide range of senior stakeholders.
  • Evidence of managing teams to successful development of complex, medium/high risk projects or high-profile projects.
  • Holds or able to attain a certified accreditation project or programme management qualification at IPMA level C: e.g.: APMPQ or APM PPQ, MSP Advanced.
  • Experience of managing business and/or value management cases for new projects through company defined governance, review and approval gates.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
