The National Environmental Assessment Service (NEAS) is seeking to recruit Principal Environmental Project Managers (PEPMs) across our national and operational hub teams.
Please note that this advert is for national recruitment and will be used to recruit both permanent and temporary roles in our teams. This is dependent on where our vacancies arise, and preferences will be taken during the interview process.
Our PEPMs are highly experienced environmental technical specialists who play a lead role in supporting delivery of the Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) capital programme, and contribute to achievement of the EA's corporate, environmental and sustainability targets. They provide specialist advice at national level to the business, at programme level to an Integrated Delivery Team (hub), and directly to major projects.
They provide technical leadership and direction to our Senior Environmental Project Managers and Environmental Project Managers in our operational teams. This ensures our staff have the technical skills and capabilities needed to effectively support programme delivery.
Our PEPMs provide assurance on compliance with environmental legislation and help project/programme conformance with Government and Environment Agency plans, policies and strategies for the environment. Our PEPMs ensure that the impacts of current and upcoming environmental legislation, plans, policies and strategies on FCRM capital programme delivery are understood by our Integrated Delivery Teams and Major Project Teams
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

NEAS oversees the effective management of environmental risk on our Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) projects and identifies and delivers environmental enhancements that create a better place for people and wildlife. Our friendly teams work with colleagues, partners, stakeholders, and supply partners to manage environmental risks and deliver enhancements across the programme, ensuring that sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

This advert is for national recruitment of Principal Environmental Project Managers. We currently have vacancies in the North East (2 x permanent), South West (2-year fixed term appointment) and Midlands teams (12-month fixed term appointment).
However, candidates successful at interview from any geographical location will be held on our reserve list for the next 6 months and may be offered other vacancies as they arise.
Base location can be flexible within the recruiting teams but with an expectation of regularly co-locating in Hub or delivery partner offices.
All roles will require the ability to travel around operational hubs and nationally, as required.

Experience/skills Required
Essential:
- Educated to Degree standard in an environmental science or related subject.
- Understanding of relevant and current environmental and legislative knowledge to ensure the programme is environmentally compliant, including environmental impact assessment, habitats regulations and other environmental legislation and policy.
- Have a background in project and programme management, including experience of managing environmental risk on significant infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrable experience as an environmental adviser within multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Have excellent communication and influencing skills with both internal and external stakeholders as relationship management.
- Experience of Strategic Environmental Assessments.
- Membership of a professional environmental institute would be preferred.
- Knowledge of flood and coastal risk management and FCRM Project appraisal.
- Experience of working on coastal flood defence schemes
- Familiarity with a recognised project management methodology such as PRINCE2
- Experience in mentoring and supporting colleagues.
