BakerHicks is hiring a Principal Structural Engineer to lead high-impact projects across Scotland. This is a senior leadership role for a Chartered Engineer ready to take ownership of project delivery, team development, and strategic growth.
You’ll manage a portfolio of multidisciplinary projects, mentor engineers and technicians, and play a key role in business development. From defence and custodial facilities to energy infrastructure, your work will shape the future of Scotland’s built environment.

BakerHicks is hiring a Principal Structural Engineer to lead high-impact projects across Scotland. This is a senior leadership role for a Chartered Engineer ready to take ownership of project delivery, team development, and strategic growth.
You’ll manage a portfolio of multidisciplinary projects, mentor engineers and technicians, and play a key role in business development. From defence and custodial facilities to energy infrastructure, your work will shape the future of Scotland’s built environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural design and specification across steel, concrete, timber, and masonry.
- Manage project delivery including time, cost, quality, and resources.
- Conduct technical reviews and ensure compliance with British Standards, Eurocodes, and CDM regulations.
- Mentor junior engineers and oversee SER certification (if applicable).
- Contribute to bids, tenders, and client proposals.
- Engage in business development through client meetings and industry events.
- Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE).
- Proven experience managing teams and delivering complex structural projects.
- Strong technical design and specification skills.
- Familiarity with structural software such as TEDDS, Tekla, and MasterSeries.
- SER Certification (or working towards it) – desirable.
- Eligibility for UK security clearance – desirable.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Clear progression path to Associate level and beyond.
