We are seeking an experienced Principal Contracts Engineer to join a dynamic supply chain and commercial team supporting North Sea operations. This senior role is responsible for leading complex contracting strategies and managing high-value operational and logistics contracts, ensuring commercial excellence, compliance, and value delivery across the full contract lifecycle. The successful candidate will provide expertise across category management, sourcing, negotiation, supplier management, and contract governance — acting as a trusted business partner to operational stakeholders and a key contributor to performance improvement initiatives.

  • 12-month renewable PAYE contract (inside IR35).
  • Day rate, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end contracting activities for operational and logistics categories, from strategy through to award and management.
  • Develop and execute sourcing and contracting strategies that maximise value and mitigate risk.
  • Conduct market and spend analysis to identify cost-saving and performance-improvement opportunities.
  • Negotiate and draft complex commercial contracts, ensuring alignment with company standards and applicable laws.
  • Manage supplier relationships, performance, and compliance to contractual and operational requirements.
  • Resolve contractual and supplier issues, ensuring continuity of service and commercial protection.
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, tax, and insurance teams on contract risk assessment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain and procurement processes.
  • Coach and support less-experienced team members to build organisational capability.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree-qualified in Supply Chain Management, Business, Law, or Engineering (MBA or equivalent preferred).
  • MCIPS certification (or equivalent professional qualification) highly desirable.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in contract engineering or strategic procurement within the energy or industrial sector.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, high-value contracts across multiple functions.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, commercial negotiation, and LOGIC contract models.
  • Experienced in SAP, Ivalua, and MS Office tools.
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering measurable commercial value and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical capability with a proactive, results-oriented approach.
