Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacist or pharmacy technician to lead, manage and act as a role model to all technical and support staff working in the pharmacy and all clinical pharmacists that work in the dispensary.

They will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and effective delivery of all technical and operational aspects of the pharmacy services, within national and local standards, interpreting policies and guidelines (Such as Controlled Drug Regulations, SOPs) in collaboration with the Senior Pharmacy Team.

They have responsibility for the functioning of dispensary, procurement and distribution services in pharmacy.

The post holder reports directly to the Pharmacy Site Manager (FPH) and will deputise as appropriate in various meetings within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

To provide leadership to all pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants and support staff within the department.

To take responsibility for policy and service developments with pharmacy, under the direction of the Senior Pharmacy Team.

To provide clinical leadership to all pharmacy technicians/dispensary pharmacists in line with local guidelines, formulary decisions and policies relating to high cost drugs within the Trust.

To take responsibility for all aspects of Health and Safety within pharmacy, including dispensary, stores and pharmacy distribution areas.

To manage staff working within all technical and support roles within pharmacy, including recruitment, appraisal and performance.

To support the Responsible Person for the wholesale dealers license held at the base site.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable ability to communicate highly complex information, both verbally and in writing to senior managers on all aspects of pharmacy practice
  • Demonstrable analytical skills to assimilate complex information and present detailed reports for senior managers in the organisation
  • Demonstrable ability to initiate and manage audits and project work
  • Demonstrates an appropriate level of clinical reasoning and judgement
  • Demonstrable leadership ability and motivational, inspirational and visionary leadership style
  • Ability to negotiate with and influence senior pharmacy and medical staff
  • Proven ability to deal with conflict and complaints
  • Proven ability to contribute to business planning and development of action plans
  • Proven ability in proposing, developing and writing departmental and Trust policies
  • Proven track record for successful team working

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • GPhC Registered
  • Accredited Medicines Management Technician/Pharmacist qualification
  • Accredited technician checker/Pharmacist qualification
  • Knowledge and skills equivalent to post graduate diploma level, specifically to include a sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy and a proven track record of managing teams to high performance levels and through change/ MSc or other level 7 qualification (working towards).
  • Management qualification or equivalent Project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE) or equivalent experience at a senior level

Desirable criteria

  • Member of RPS / APTUK
  • MBA or EGA
  • Annotated on GPhC register as Pharmacist Independent Prescriber
  • ECDL qualification/ Experience with Pre-Registration training
  • Successful completion of a leadership programme (e.g. Mary Seacole).

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Significant post qualification hospital pharmacy practice
  • Proven effective management of a team
  • Significant experience of working in healthcare in a range of settings and roles
  • Experience of service delivery in a service dealing directly with patients, including demonstrable effective customer care services
  • Experience of managing staff, including recruitment, appraisal and staff development
  • Proven track record of delivering change in practice to short deadlines and to a high standard

Desirable criteria

  • Involvement in a major change project at organisation or inter organisation level
  • Formal financial training
  • Experience of leading on business plan developments with deliverable outcomes
  • Budget responsibilities

Special Requirements

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of all aspects of hospital pharmacy services, including dispensary, distribution, purchasing, homecare and aseptic services
  • Demonstrable professional clinical knowledge to post graduate diploma level
  • Proven experience of applying NHS strategy to operational management and good understanding of NHS management and strategy
  • Knowledge of budgets and Trust financial systems
  • Familiar with the Omnicell automation system or equivalent and automated storage cabinet functionality
  • In depth understanding of EPR system
