We are recruiting a Paralegal to support our growing Public Inquiries & Investigations team who act on behalf of high-profile governmental inquiries, including sensitive matters of national security or public interest. This is a full-time opportunity which is being offered on a 12-month fixed term contract.

Your Role

As a Paralegal, you will provide support to the team on day to day case work, including the following tasks:

  • Working closely with the solicitors team in dealing with and responding to claims for costs submitted under s40 of the Inquiries Act
  • Using excel and other programmes to track and review claims, appeals and final assessments
  • Liaising with the stakeholder legal firms and clients direct on s40 costs and budget
  • Understand and apply the Inquiry Act 2005 and Inquiry Rule 2006 in determining claims for costs
  • Reviewing and organising data relevant to the Inquiry and presenting in a preferred format to assist the investigation
  • Taking detailed instructions within the team and providing regular updates on progress

Your Skills And Experience

  • Previous legal assistant experience is preferable.
  • Excellent communication skill (both oral and written).
  • Accuracy, good organisational skills and flexibility.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under tight timescales.
  • Good knowledge of excel is required. An analytical mind or an interest in maths is an advantage.

Your Team

The Public Inquires team at TLT has a wide breadth of experience on all aspects of inquiry work. We represent central government, non-departmental public bodies, local government, high-profile individuals, blue light services and the private sector.

The team provide a full legal service. This includes advising individual key witnesses representing public bodies, private individuals and acting on behalf of inquiries themselves. This breadth of experience and knowledge allows the team to deal with all aspects of public inquiries and provides a unique perspective. On top of our legal advice, we are able to provide support to an inquiry secretariat. We can provide project management, budget advice and administrative support.
