Salary: £40,000 - £60,000

Onsite role: The position is very much on site, but we offer some flexibility (some people work from home 1 day / week but if the project requires then they come onsite).

Primary role: Responsible for development and design of optoelectronic products. Lead development work packages in large development projects for internal and external customers. Be instrumental in developing future technologies as part of technology roadmap.

Key Accountability

  • Design and development of optoelectronic devices and systems: design, execution and analysis of development work
  • Define and lead direction of work packages
  • Documentation of design and control of design records
  • Liaising with customers and supply chain
  • Production of engineering paper work to build up design records within the company's quality system.
  • Responsible to ensure documentation is correct and kept up to date
  • Ensure Health and Safety standards and procedures are followed at all time
  • Ensure adherence to Company Policies and Procedures

Daily Role

  • Plan, monitor and carry out development work towards future optoelectronic products or systems at both a component and systems level
  • Ensure Health and Safety standards and procedures are followed at all times
  • Support the development of internal and external products
  • Production of engineering paper work to build up design records within the company's quality system.
  • Assist and develop other staff in key areas of knowledge
  • Maintain a clean and organised workspace

  • Design and development of optoelectronic devices and systems: design, execution and analysis of development work
  • Deliver technically challenging projects on time and to budget and in line with company processes
  • Work closely with customers and suppliers to develop proposals and deliver products against their requirements
  • Design and deliver finished products as well as internal development prototypes, rigs and measurement setups
  • Produce work instructions, diagrams and training to aid transfer to production of large systems and subsystems
  • Ensure BOMs are correct and kept up to date
  • Provide reviews and reports to support and validate designs
  • Ensure adherence to Company Policies and Procedures

Required Skills

  • Min Bachelor Degree in technical subject (Masters or PhD preferred)
  • At least 3-5 years in relevant development role
  • Experience managing and solving complex R&D problems
  • Enthusiastic problem solver using evidence-based approaches to find suitable technical solutions
  • Ability to work as part of a team or autonomously as the job requires
  • High integrity, self-motivated, self-starter who takes initiative and is able to manage their own time and priorities in a dynamic environment

Desired Skills

  • familiarity with basic project management techniques
  • Experience working with opto-mechanical components/systems
  • Experience or knowledge of Python
  • Experience with electronics hardware
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings
  • Experience or knowledge of LabView
  • Experience or knowledge of Python
