Role Purpose

The NPI Manager must lead the successful introduction of new products into manufacturing. The role involves overseeing multiple concurrent projects, ensuring a smooth transition from design to production by leveraging a strong foundation in electronic principles and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a small cross-functional team focused on bringing new products into production, from prototype to volume manufacturing.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of accurate parts lists (BOMs) within the company’s MRP system.
  • Coordinate and support first-build activities, working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure build integrity and design intent.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive documentation packages, including assembly instructions, test procedures, and product configurations, to support production handover.
  • Collaborate across departments to resolve design-for-manufacture (DFM) issues, improve workflows, and ensure quality, cost, and delivery targets are met.

Leadership

  • Provide clear direction and strategic guidance to the team, ensuring alignment with Pickerings goals and objectives.
  • Inspire, motivate, and support team members to achieve their best performance, fostering a positive and productive working environment.
  • Act as a role model, demonstrating professionalism, accountability, and integrity in all interactions.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels, ensuring key information is shared across the team and wider organisation.
  • Drive employee engagement by encouraging collaboration, recognising achievements, and promoting individual development.
  • Identify skills gaps and support learning and development initiatives to build team capability.
  • Manage team performance via Lattice through regular feedback, coaching, appraisals and objective-setting to achieve individual and collective goals.
  • Lead by example in promoting company values, ensuring team behaviours align with Pickerings culture.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and proactively addressing challenges.
  • Support change management initiatives by guiding the team through transitions and ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: HNC or similar
  • Experience: Experience in electronic manufacture
  • Skills/Competencies: Competent in soldering and wiring. Good understanding of electronics and production methods. Ability to rework and replace through-hole and SMT devices. Ability to generate clear and concise documentation covering all requirements of each build. Understanding mechanical 3D models and ability to use Solidworks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Solidworks qualified.
  • Management experience.

Key Skills

  • Strong understanding of electronic design and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems, BOM creation, and documentation control.
  • Effective team leadership and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Hands-on approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Strong fault-finding ability to component level.
  • Understanding electrical schematics and wiring information.
