Role Purpose:

As a Network Engineer you will be responsible for providing input into building, maintaining and supporting the end to end Network Service. This will include full lifecycle management of platforms; hardware and software - ensuring that delivery and service commitments are met. You will perform network maintenance to ensure the service remains available with minimal interruption.

This is a role within the Delivery and Run team and will involve supporting the other network engineers to deliver new technologies into the end to end Network Service.

You will be required to:

  • Provide technical support and issue resolution for clients of the end to end Network Service, documenting standard internal processes for solutions and to transfer these into business as usual delivery.
  • Escalate network issues to the appropriate support teams where outside of the scope of the Service team and ensure that incident ownership is transferred and acknowledged.
  • Monitor and manage work queues ensuring incidents are resolved or escalated within time, ensuring excellent communication of results to the customer in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist in the provision of an effective and efficient service to the Travis Perkins group business and in the proactive management of all systems to maintain a high degree of system uptime.
  • Follow all technical and management procedures both internal and external to the department and assists in the identification and resolution of the deficiency or absence of procedures ensuring that all system documentation is created and maintained up to date.
  • To assist in the implementation of projects and planned activities assigned and ensure adherence to the Travis Perkins group change procedures.
  • Carry out activities outside normal working hours including weekends to ensure all services are available in hours without disruption to the wider business

It would be great if you had…

  • Certification in one or more Cisco Certifications (CCNP)
  • Either professionally accredited or accredited by not less than 3 years relevant experience.
  • Experience with VOIP components and converged networks and with Cisco IOS / NOS (Nexus).
  • Knowledge of: network monitoring / platforms - Solarwinds, Nsight etc.; of network analysis tools such as Wireshark etc.; of security / firewall technologies - ACLs, Proxies etc.; of tunnelling protocols including IPSEC, GRE, L2TPv3; of wireless technologies and cloud technologies such as AWS and GCP.
  • Knowledge of firewall technologies including Fortigate and Cisco
  • Advanced knowledge Quality of Service.
  • Experience to be able to explain technical problems in simple terms.

While Not Essential, The Following Would Be Desirable…

  • BTEC Telecoms, CCNA working toward CCNP
  • ITIL certified
  • Data Centre working practices and technologies
  • Knowledge of protocols such as VRRP, HSRP, LACP, IPV4, OSPF etc
  • Experience of working with a Cisco Nexus
  • Experience of working Fortigate environments
