Your impact
Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior or Principal Engineer to carry out research into the next generation of airborne mesh networks.
The successful candidate will have a breadth of understanding of different network protocols and routing algorithms. You will be able to consider the pros and cons of designing a network in different ways and study where the network protocols themselves need to be adapted to meet the projects particular requirements.
You will be working with the Leonardo team, subcontractors and partners.
This is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn.

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV). - Systems Engineering Apply and develop your knowledge of systems engineering in a fast-paced team.

- Good understanding of networking protocols including knowledge of the function of the different protocols in the stack, what the alternatives are and why they have been designed as they are.
- The ability to design meaningful experiments and interpret the results.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate ideas to varied audiences.
- It would be nice if you had knowledge/experience of
- Research to investigate novel networking algorithms
- Commonly used network simulation tools
- Software engineering techniques
- Wireless communications
