Mobile Developer (React Native iOS/Android)

Early Team

  • Product-Defining Role

As a Mobile Developer at Light, you’ll take the existing foundations of our iOS React Native app and help evolve it into the defining mobile experience for next-generation finance. You’ll shape architecture, refine interaction models, and build high-polish, high-trust workflows that feel effortless—while solving complex financial problems under the hood.

This is a hands-on, product-centric engineering role. You’ll work closely with design, product, and backend teams as we expand the depth and breadth of our mobile offering. Your initial focus will be on iOS, with Android expansion planned for Q1 2026.

You'll join our mobile team in its defining phase, with direct influence on architecture, roadmap, and engineering culture. You'll help shape the app to reach our targets for usability, reliability, and craftsmanship across Light's mobile platform.

Our environment:

Technologies you’ll use the most (required):

  • Mobile application built using React Native and Expo
  • GitHub workflows and Expo workflows for CI/CD
  • Sentry / Datadog for observability, crash reporting, and performance monitoring

Technologies you might interact with (bonus):

  • Backend API written in Kotlin
  • Web application in TypeScript / Next.js

We're ~25 engineers distributed across 15+ countries. The mobile team currently has 4 people — giving you the opportunity to shape our mobile platform from the ground up.

What you’ll own:

  • Help evolve our existing React Native + Expo iOS application by improving architecture, performance, and reliability
  • Help establish strong mobile engineering best practices: code structure, testing strategy, automation, tooling, and observability
  • Build mobile-first workflows that make complex financial tasks simple, fast, and delightful for users
  • Collaborate with design and product to deliver a polished, intuitive mobile experience
  • Work closely with backend engineers to shape API designs that work well on mobile
  • Support the release process: CI/CD pipelines, Expo workflows, rollout strategies, and automation
  • Help us release an Android version of the application and ensure the codebase is ready for cross-platform growth
  • Troubleshoot production issues and improve performance, stability, and error handling
  • Contribute to our mobile roadmap and long-term product vision

How you fit into the team:

You’re someone who loves building mobile apps that feel extraordinary and not just functional. You understand how to design mobile architectures that scale, how to move quickly in early-stage environments, and when to invest in polish or performance.

You think like a product engineer and care deeply about the quality and feel of every interaction.

Your Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional mobile development experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on React Native experience in production environments
  • Experience maintaining, improving, or scaling production mobile applications
  • Strong understanding of mobile architecture, async data flows, and real-world edge cases
  • Pragmatic decision-making — ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability
  • Comfortable collaborating across design, backend, and product to shape mobile-first experiences
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly
  • A product mindset — desire to make complex financial tasks simple, fast, and delightful

Bonus Points

  • Experience designing mobile system architecture from scratch or at scale
  • Launched consumer apps with 4.5+ star ratings
  • Experience shipping Android apps with React Native
  • Exposure to backend APIs (Kotlin) or web (TypeScript/Next.js)
  • Familiarity with observability tools like Sentry or Datadog
  • Experience with CI/CD for mobile (GitHub workflows, Expo EAS)

A few tips to stand out

  • We're looking for an architect, not an interior designer — someone who can design robust systems and see the big picture, not just polish existing features. Show us how you've made high-level architectural decisions and the trade-offs you considered.
  • Demonstrate your product thinking by showing how you elevate UX, not just code
  • Walk us through architectural decisions and the trade-offs behind them
  • Bonus: show us your philosophy on mobile architecture and craftsmanship

The good stuff

In addition to being part of a great team and working in a really fun and innovative environment, we offer:

  • Competitive salary + stock options in our fast-growing startup
  • Paid parental leave
  • 25 days of annual leave + public holidays (in your country)
  • Regular socials and company off-sites
  • A huge opportunity to shape a market-defining product and engineering culture

The famous last words

At Light, we’re building the most trusted financial platform in the world — and trust shows up in every tap, transition, and interaction. As part of the early mobile team, you’ll define how next-gen finance feels on mobile.

Join the rocket ship while it’s taking off
