As a Medical Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you will be a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world. You will perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets across the UK. The IDEXX Biochemistry/Haematology team in Wetherby is one of our busiest departments. We are enthusiastic, forward-thinking and part of a dynamic and very active department.
We collaborate with the European and wider IDEXX network to ensure our processes are current and up to date with the market, always striving to ensure our customers receive the best quality service. IDEXX Biochemistry processes high volume blood specimens from animals, for diagnostic evaluation by our team of Veterinary Pathologists. The Biochemistry technicians and technologists are responsible for upholding high quality processes whilst operating automated top-of-the-range equipment to meet daily targets.

In This Role
- You will be using automated analyzers, microscopes and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
- You will be performing diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day.
- You will be responsible for setting up and running lab tests, reading and releasing results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
- From day one, you'll have full autonomy in your work, but you'll also get full support when you need it.
- You will play a critical role as part of a successful team that is proud of the work they do and motivated by the common purpose in helping veterinarians quickly diagnose illness and disease in pets and animals – how great is that?
- Testing blood and body fluid for various analytes, utilizing automated instrumentation
- Testing cell-related components of blood samples to enumerate and identify their cellular components, including microscopic evaluation of blood smears and the use of automated and manual counting techniques. Other techniques involved in this area are smear preparation, the usage and maintenance of the Haematology analyzers and Serology testing.
- You will have a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent
- Ideally, you will have experience working in a laboratory. Experience setting up, running and reading lab test and operating laboratory equipment would be a plus.
- You have a positive attitude and love to bring this energy into the lab every day to support your colleagues, whether working independently or as a team contributor
- You are someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
- You can read, understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
- You have a familiarity and comfort with using computers for data entry.
- You are able to prioritize and multi-task, demonstrate excellent attention to detail on the job and can work reliably and precisely.
- The shifts are Tuesday - Saturday (Between 06:00 – 17:30, with a flexible start between 6:00 and 8:00 in the morning according to business needs).
- Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
