General Job Description
What you will be doing
As Mechanical Assembler, you will play a key role in carrying out mechanical assembly and testing of precision-engineered components and systems, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
As Mechanical Assembler, your work will focus on these responsibilities:
- Assemble mechanical components and systems according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and specifications.
- Perform functional and pressure testing of assembled units using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Identify and report any non-conformances or defects during assembly or testing.
- Maintain accurate records of build and test results, including traceability documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the cell and wider production environment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Proven experience in mechanical assembly and testing, ideally within a defence, marine, or heavy engineering environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and method sheets.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges).
- Experience with hydraulic or pneumatic systems is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation and reporting.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Apprenticeship in mechanical fitting or similar is advantageous.
- Additional certifications in pressure testing or lifting operations (e.g., LOLER) are a plus.
- Working Conditions
- Workshop-based role with occasional lifting and manual handling.
- PPE must be worn at all times.
- May require occasional overtime or shift work depending on project demands.
