This grant-funded Little Saigon Outreach Coordinator works in the City Manager's department under the direction of the Economic Development Manager. This candidate will be responsible for implementation of outreach and coordination of strategies in the Little Saigon program area in accordance with the Little Saigon Blueprint for Investment . This position assists in the development, design, and implementation of community participation and outreach to businesses, property owners, community-based organizations, and public agencies. This position is scheduled at 40 hours per week.

Guide and support coordination efforts in engagement of the Little Saigon community, with a focus on the business district.

Develop strong collaborative relationships with businesses, property owners, and managers, and community-based service providers to enable the most effective coordination, referral system, and capacity development. Maintain cooperation and participation with collaborating groups.

Determine priority needs for businesses and create pathways to connect resources (e.g. coordinate a workshop with the Small Business Administration for business owners).

Organize and lead various community meetings.

Reach out to community members via multiple methods, including in-person visits to businesses.

Preparation of required monthly reports, communications, and other documentation. Maintain close communication regarding the status of outreach efforts with Citystaff. Coordinate services to impact cultural vibrancy by supporting group and leader skills development andcapacity.

Advance planning and implementation efforts outlined in the Little Saigon Blueprint for Investment.

Educate community members about applicable resources and programs available through the City.

Collaborate with City staff to address multifaceted issues or concerns raised from community feedback.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with the public, non-profits, representatives of other agencies, and co-workers.

Ability to coordinate, develop, lay out and implement public education and outreach programs.

Ability to think analytically and apply sound judgment, solve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity.

Cultural competency to work with residents from diverse backgrounds across boundaries of class, race and issue.

Some experience in meeting facilitation, public speaking, community organization, and community relations.

Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.

Ability To

Work independently, be flexible, and manage multiple priorities.

Some knowledge of the City/County/State political and policy process.

Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Excel and Google apps such as Gmail/Calendar/Docs.

Education And Experience

English/Vietnamese bilingual required. Vietnamese reading/writing skills preferred.

Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Bachelor’s degree in related field - Public Administration, Public Relations, Business, International Business/Relations, Political Science, Economics, Communications, Cultural Studies.

2-3 years of experience in a non-profit, government, economic development, service organization, or business outreach role.

SALARY AND SCHEDULE

Non-exempt position, if filled as a City employee. The hourly rate will be commensurate with experience, with a salary schedule range of $27.35- $34.91 per hour.

Currently offered at 40 hours per week, expected to last approximately 1 year based on available funding.
