We are seeking a skilled and proactive Linux DevOps Engineer to join our team. This role emphasises automation, performance tuning, and continuous improvement of our Linux and Oracle database environments. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for operational excellence and a DevOps mindset, using modern tools to reduce manual work and enhance reliability, scalability, and performance.

Requirements

Primary duties for the role include:

  • Working with Product Owners and Delivery leads to assist with organising the backlog of work and following road map improvements
  • Participating in Scrum stand ups and other agile ceremonies
  • Managing system and database infrastructure and building custom tools
  • Strong focus on leveraging scripting and automation tools to streamline database administration tasks
  • Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle Databases and Linux systems and related products according to established best practices.
  • Linux and Oracle system administration and optimisation

Automation & DevOps:

  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Shell/Python scripting.
  • Automate database provisioning, patching, cloning, monitoring, and backups.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and database release automation.

Enhancement & Optimization:

  • Continuously improve system performance through tuning and proactive analysis.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies or practices to enhance stability and efficiency.
  • Implement observability tools and proactive alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Oracle Enterprise Manager).

Key skills and Experience relevant to this role:

  • Proficient in Oracle Linux system administration, database management and automation and scripting
  • Experience with Linux commands, file system navigation, user management, package management and system monitoring
  • Experience with Oracle tools: RMAN, Data Guard, OEM, ASM, RAC.
  • Proficient in automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, and scripting languages (Bash, Python)
  • Experience managing infrastructure and building custom tools
  • Proficiency in SQL for interacting with Oracle databases
  • Solid understanding of performance tuning (AWR/ASH reports, execution plans).
  • Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools and best practices
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Proactive and self-driven with attention to detail
  • Effective communication and documentation skills
  • Collaborative team player with a mindset of continuous improvement.
