The role

Our Technical Services team is responsible for the critical Operational Technology that helps run the electricity network in the north of Scotland. From advanced Protection and Control Systems to SCADA and Telecommunications Systems, we design and support the technologies that keep the network safe, reliable, and ready for tomorrow’s challenges.

We’re looking for a Lead SCADA Field Engineer to oversee and develop our SCADA and operational comms capability across the network. This is a technical leadership role that blends strategic input with hands-on delivery. You’ll manage a team of field engineers and work closely with Scada Project Managers, Designers and Protection Engineers as well as stakeholders across the business to make sure our SCADA infrastructure supports the growing demands of a modern, digital grid.

You will

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of SCADA and Comms systems across the SHEPD network
  • Manage a multi-skilled team of Field Engineers and trainee engineers.
  • Oversee safety, quality, and compliance on SCADA-related works, including contractor audits, risk assessments, and peer reviews
  • Act as the subject matter expert for SCADA systems and associated communications and lead testing for new technology being delivered to the business.
  • Support CAPEX, connections and fault response workstreams, acting as a key stakeholder for cross-functional delivery.
  • Assist with fault finding to meet strategic SLAs along with supporting innovation, training, recruitment, and mentoring across the SCADA discipline.

You have

  • An in-depth knowledge of SCADA systems and Operational Communications
  • A solid technical foundation - through a degree, HND, or hands-on experience in electrical, electronic, or telecoms engineering
  • Confidence leading and supporting others - whether through formal team leadership, mentoring, or leading on technical delivery
  • The ability to build strong working relationships and communicate clearly across technical and non-technical teams
  • A flexible, practical approach to solving problems, with openness to learning and working with different perspectives

This role will involve travel between sites; therefore, a full driving licence is required.
