Overview Of The Role

The working pattern for this role is 35 hours per week (5 x 7 hours shifts over Monday to Sunday).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Assistant to join our Cheadle Imaging Centre.

Responsibilities

Undertake tasks relating to sample management

• Support creating and maintaining accurate traceability of all samples Move/transport samples across a range of cold storage environments
• Perform location audits
• Pick samples from participant withdrawals destructions
• Perform consolidation of samples across sample storage locations (including automated stores, -80°C freezers and Liquid Nitrogen tanks)
• Handle samples with care to maintain sample integrity
• Under guidance of the Sample Management Officer, support work to standardise storage of historic samples
  
  

Initial receipt, aliquotting and storage of samples

• Receipt and aliquot new samples coming into the resource
• Pick samples from automated stores, -80°C freezers or Liquid Nitrogen tanks
  
  

Support a safe, efficient working environment adhering to quality and other relevant standards

• Clean laboratory
• Undertake equipment maintenance
• Lab coat rotation
• Waste disposal
  
  

About You

Undertake additional duties in line with business needs

Essential

• Experience of working in an environment with time and temperature sensitive tasks
• Experience of following written protocols
• Proven ability to communicate with team members effectively
• User of Microsoft Office including – Word and Excel
• Detail-orientated
• Pro-active attitude
  
  

Desirable

• Academic qualification in a life science (at least A-level in biology or equivalent)
• Experience of working in a laboratory (inc academic setting)
• Experience of working with biological samples
• Experience of working with cold chain or frozen items
• Experience of working to the requirements of a relevant ISO standard (e.g. ISO9001, ISO17025, ISO15189, ISO27001), GxP or equivalent
• Experience of using a LIMS product or equivalent complex management system
• Experience of using automated storage systems
• Experience of using cold storage (i.e. -80°C freezers or Liquid Nitrogen tanks)
