About The Job
The Know Your Neighbourhood Project (KYN) is to promote community support and accessibility for people who have a learning disability.
We are looking for 1 person with learning disabilities to become a Peer Support Worker for the Know Your Neighbourhood project in South Tyneside.
Hours of work
1 day (7.5 hours) per week.
The job will last until 31st March 2026.
What you will do
You and your team will help local people who have a learning disability, and autistic people.
You and your team will be helping people who have asked for some help.
These are some of the ways you might help each person:
Asking Them About What Help They Need
Helping them to think about their hopes and dreams
Helping them to think what they are good at
Helping them to find out what can help them to have a good life
Helping them to make a plan
Helping them to try new activities and visit new places in South Tyneside
Helping people to set up peer support groups or activities
Delivering training and workshops with the community Connectors to help people learn new skills and information
Helping people to have their voice heard about things that are important to them
What kind of person we are looking for
You must have personal experience of having a learning disability or being autistic.
You must be interested in helping people to have a better life
You must be good at listening
You must be able to talk to lots of different people.
You must be able to think of good ideas about how people can live a happy and healthy life, making the most of where they live
You will understand how to work with people and see the things they are good at.
You must believe in equal opportunities for everyone.
You can travel around South Tyneside and get to the places we run drop ins.
You can have support if you need it.
You will be good at working with others
You live in South Tyneside or know South Tyneside well.
It Would Be Good If
You know how to use a phone, computer or both.
You can have support if you need it
You can travel around Gateshead and know the area.
You can have support if you need it
You know how to use social media, WhatsApp, Zoom or Microsoft Teams
We can give you support with IT
