Junior 2nd Line Support Engineer

Location: Hursley, 5x a week

Clearance requirements - SC eligible 5yrs uk residency

Salary: £28,000 per annum

We are actively looking to secure a Junior 2nd Line Support Engineer to join Experis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 2nd line support for critical applications and infrastructure in a high-availability environment.
  • Respond to and resolve incidents escalated from 1st line support, taking ownership from diagnosis through to resolution or escalation to 3rd line/vendor where required.
  • Ensure effective communication with users, clients, and delivery teams throughout the incident lifecycle.
  • Proactively monitor systems and services to prevent issues, using tools such as Netcool and SolarWinds.
  • Work collaboratively with IBM delivery teams, third parties, and stakeholders to implement service fixes and process improvements.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of issues, fixes, and known errors to support continuous improvement.
  • Participate in change management, patching, and system maintenance activities as required.
  • Contribute to process and governance improvements, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and to best practice standards.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a 2nd line support or application support role within a live service/critical environment.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Netcool (event monitoring)
    • ServiceNow (SNOW) or equivalent ITSM tool
    • PowerShell scripting for automation and troubleshooting
    • SQL (queries, troubleshooting)
    • Oracle databases
    • SolarWinds (infrastructure monitoring)
Nice To Have (Desirable) Skills

  • AIX (UNIX administration and support)
  • IBM MQ (messaging middleware)
  • AWS (EC2, VPC - cloud infrastructure basics)
