This role is advertised as part of our BBC Extend programme for disabled people. Job Purpose

BBC Radio Devon is a popular station based in BBC South’s West regional centre in Plymouth. Devon is fantastic place to live and work with a mix of economies and communities. Our team has a real passion for where we live and as the local broadcaster we have a close connection to our audience. We’re committed to telling amazing stories from our communities and bringing in new audiences by creating content which generates impact on-air and on demand. We’re looking for an experienced journalist to join our team you’ll be able to set up & produce live programmes, find original stories that are relevant to our audience as well as creating visualised content which will travel far and wide on socials. You’ll also be working on radio programmes for the wider SW.

Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities

We’re looking for a talented & creative journalist, bursting with ideas that will make BBC Radio Devon the go to place for information and shareable stories. You’ll work on our local audio output across seven days a week on a mixture of shifts that will include early and later starts and weekend working. This role is primarily working with the audio team producing programmes both preparation and studio output, as well as finding and creating shareable on demand content. You’ll be confident coordinating breaking news stories, directing live hold to account interviews as well as writing briefing notes and cues for presenters. As part of the wider BBC South West news team you will also find yourself reading bulletins, working on social platforms and reporting at times.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

Knowledge of crafting audio to make creative & engaging content that resonates with local communities.

Have examples of you how you have make your stories travel further via digital platforms and social media.

Have a recognised journalism qualification or 2 years industry experience.

Have good knowledge of editorial and legal guidelines.

Be able to work under pressure.

Be a team player.

Live reporting skills across TV radio and online.

Know the BBC Radio Devon area, with an understanding of the stories that matter to our existing audiences and how we could do more to serve via linear & digital platforms
