Key Responsibilities
JOB DESCRIPTION
Independently carry out Qualitative and Quantitative Exposure Assessment Sampling- Develop in house capability in Air sampling (Personal and Workplace) for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients & excipients (where needed) to quantify exposure levels.
Manage appropriate verification of containment testing on processing equipment and process trains
Conduct surveys and observe work conditions to identify processes which pose a risk to health of employees
Analyse and interpret results of assessments to develop plans for improved work conditions
Ensure appropriate systems are in place to update employees on the findings of hygiene assessments
Define training to educate employees on health/safety requirements necessary for safe handling of hazardous substances, including COSHH, API handling and means of protection
Develop in conjunction with site EHS leads appropriate occupational Health assessment and management protocols to include but not limited to, noise, HAVs, ergonomics, heat stress (hot and cold), lighting and indoor air quality.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation on occupational health and safety
Ensure organizational policies align with standards set by regulatory bodies and CEHS.
Working closely with the company occupational health providers and where required corporate IH & OH Lead.
Design and execute industrial hygiene plans and related annual IH improvement plans as a part of continual progress.
Define equipment requirements for site management of OH and ensure appropriate maintenance protocols are in place.
Assist with the site OEB / OEL determination and understanding
Lead management of ChemDoc system, and author & install IH related SEPs across both sites
Drive personal protective equipment program for UK sites
Competencies
Demonstrated competence in leading occupational health management within a UK framework.
Highly effective communication skills in all forms
Comfortable working with complex processes and ambiguity
Exceptional levels of initiative, self-motivation and energy
Strong leadership and people management skills
Highly organised with an ability to work effectively to deadlines.
A high attention to detail with an ability to follow through on commitments.
Sound judgment with ability to balance big picture thinking and the appropriate attention to detail with a risk management focus.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
Educated to a minimum of BSc level in relevant technical discipline.
Qualified Industrial Hygienist – Licentiate or Chartered Member of BOHS, demonstrable experience of managing IH programs in pharmaceutical manufacturing / chemical industry.
Relevant Experience
Able to identify and critically analyse relevant sources of information.
Ability to design and conduct the necessary occupational hygiene studies to ensure compliance with UK regulations.
Ability to deal with complex issues systematically and creatively and make sound judgements based on data and in some cases in the absence of complete data.
Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization to relay safe working practices, operational procedures and risk base identification.
