  • The purpose of the mentor role is to provide holistic support for learners who have a range of educational support needs including social, emotional and mental health and behavioural barriers. The learners will have an Education, Health and Care Plan or other SEND need and require a range of types of support, such as an individualised plan, in class and exam support, regular 1:1 meetings to discuss and agree an action plan, direct working with the mentor, meetings to review of progress towards targets, etc. Learners may be 16-18 or adult learners.
  • The successful applicant will have an encouraging and supportive nature, be resilient in their approach and able to work with learners in a small group or 1:1. They will be able to positively influence learners to overcome their individual challenges. They will have a good knowledge of support in a further education college.

West Lancashire College is a general further education College based in Skelmersdale. We’re one of the largest employers in the West Lancashire area, employing almost 200 teaching and business support staff.

We offer academic, technical and professional qualifications at a range of levels as well as Apprenticeships. Each year we work with over 2,500 further education and work-based learners, both young people and adults, of all backgrounds and abilities.
