Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor – Marine & Tunnelling

The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to support the successful delivery of the Sizewell C Project.
CWA, appointed by the Sizewell C client, brings together three leading delivery contractors — Laing O'Rourke, Bouygues, and Balfour Beatty — to deliver the civils scope including Enabling Earthworks, Main Civil Works, and Marine and Tunnelling.
We are seeking a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor to support the Marine & Tunnelling programme, based in Avonmouth. You'll play a critical role in promoting a positive health and safety culture, providing proactive advice across project teams, and ensuring compliance with all legal and company standards from design through to delivery.

We are seeking a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor to support the Marine & Tunnelling programme, based in Avonmouth. You'll play a critical role in promoting a positive health and safety culture, providing proactive advice across project teams, and ensuring compliance with all legal and company standards from design through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned project inspections and site tours, preparing written reports and recommendations
- Deliver pre-work site inspections to identify and address risks during planning stages
- Review and track unplanned events, supporting project teams in completing investigations
- Support liaison with clients, contractors and regulators, attending meetings and working groups
- Review and update project HSW documentation, ensuring compliance with governance and legal requirements
- Deliver training and advisory sessions, including setting to work, incident investigation, occupational health and safety familiarisation
- Contribute to behavioural safety programmes and promote reporting of close calls
- Support audits, risk assessments, workplace inspections and quality assurance activities
- Deliver safety cascades, site inductions and coaching sessions for employees and subcontractors
- Monitor changes in legislation and assess their impact on project activities
- Share lessons learned and best practices across the CWA and wider Sizewell C project
Essential
- NEBOSH National Diploma, NCRQ Diploma in Applied Health & Safety or equivalent Level 6 qualification
- Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Proven ability to influence and promote a positive HSW culture in a construction/civils environment
- Experience in accident and incident investigation and reporting
- Broad experience of safety management on complex construction projects
- Valid CSCS competence card
- Graduate or Chartered Membership of IOSH (or working towards)
- Knowledge of tunnelling or marine operations
- Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
