The Role:


As the Head of Training and Capability, you'll be at the forefront of shaping the long-term future of training at AirTanker. You will lead our Voyager Academy, collaborating with our various stakeholders, suppliers, customers, and User Group representatives (UGs) to deliver a holistic and strategic approach to training and capability development. Your mission is to ensure that our training delivery is nothing short of world-class, supporting both our Voyager community and our customers.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Leadership: Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with our MOD customers and other key stakeholders, ensuring safe, legal, and compliant training delivery.
  • Strategic Vision: Develop and implement a forward-looking Voyager Academy Training Strategy that aligns with AirTanker's growth objectives, providing a clear "north star" for our training providers.
  • Innovation: Drive continuous improvement and innovation in our training services, leveraging new technologies and methodologies to enhance training experiences.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with our Training Management Team, People Team, and Training Service Provider (TSP) to ensure a successful delivery of training programs across the Voyager community.
  • Client Focus: Foster a client-driven culture within the training delivery teams, always striving to achieve the best possible training experience for our internal and external customers.
  • Compliance: Ensure the Voyager organisation remains competent and compliant with operational and regulatory standards.


Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:


  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, with experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven track record of working with senior leadership teams on strategy development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to align strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Experience in the Defence or Civil Aerospace sectors.
  • Knowledge of the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT-QS Compliance).
  • Commercial management experience.
  • Experience working within a PFI/PPP construct is a plus.
