The Head of Strategic Communications is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and executing a comprehensive communication strategy that increases our strategic influence, enhances our brand reputation, drives engagement, and supports business growth. You will lead a team of professionals in public relations, content creation, and social media management, ensuring that all efforts align with the company’s objectives and values. You also collaborate closely with our Head of Sustainability and Public Affairs, Head of Partnerships, and expert consultancy leads on Innovation, Packaging, and Waste Management. This role is pivotal in enhancing the brand's influence, visibility, reputation, and engagement across various platforms.

Your core responsibilities

  • Provide strategic counsel to senior management on external communication matters related to strategic positioning, public affairs, and crisis management.
  • Develop and implement a holistic PR, content, and social media strategy to engage and influence different target audiences. As part of this build and maintain strong relationships with key media outlets, industry influencers, and stakeholders.
  • Provide communication support for public affairs, helping to shape our leadership positioning and point of view on different policies and matters related to the waste sector.
  • Manage all external communications, including press releases, media briefings, and interviews, ensuring that it all aligns to the Brand and our leadership positionings etc.
  • Lead the team in producing high-quality, engaging, and relevant content across various platforms (blogs, whitepapers, case studies, etc.) Oversee the company’s organic social media presence, ensuring consistent messaging and engagement.
  • Analyse performance of all PR, content and social media campaigns to measure their effectiveness, identify opportunities and inform future strategies.
  • Manage and mentor a team of PR, content, and social media professionals. Foster a collaborative and creative environment that encourages innovation and excellence.

Our essential requirements

  • 5 years experience leading a Strategic Communications team within a large complex organisation
  • Experience of Public Affairs, PR, reputation management, content, social, and data analysis
  • Proven record of delivering large scale, effective PR, Content and Social strategies
  • Demonstrable strategic leader able to identify opportunities and shape plans based on insight and data
