We have a fabulous job opportunity for a Handy Person to join our awesome Supported Accommodation Services in Co Durham. We are the multi skilled hands-on practical support that helps our colleagues deliver services to our customers.
As a business we support customers with mental health support needs who live in supported accommodation in a wide range of properties and gro unds. As our handy person you’ll spend much of your time working across our different accommodation services in Co Durham.
Typical day as a Handy Person
- Doing minor or emergency repairs, decorative touches or even cleaning in our properties or communal areas
- Doing things like hanging curtain poles, moving furniture, touching up paints, changing tap washers, unblocking sinks, mowing lawns, and clearing grounds or properties.
- Carrying out regular Fire Safety checks
- Working with colleagues, commercial partners and customers throughout your day.
- Liaising with our Customer Service Centre and external contractors to report repairs outside of your remit and chase up outstanding works.
- Finally, if building flat pack furniture is your thing, then this is the perfect job for you!

About You
- A team player with a can-do attitude and enthusiasm.
- You’re multi skilled with general maintenance skills, know a bit about general repairs, carpentry, basic plumbing and can wield a broom or paint brush!
- Comfortable working and communicating with people from all walks of life
- It would be amazing if you have been a handy person in a previous job, but it’s not a deal breaker
- To get from A to B, you’ll need a vehicle insured for business purposes. The great news is that we’ll pay your mileage!
Due to limits on our current certificates of sponsorship, we are not able to offer sponsorship to external candidates for this role. This remains under regular review.

You’ll join Rosie, Gemma and the teams working in supported accommodation we’re super passionate about what we do! We’re really proud of the standard of our properties and accommodation.
Job details
- We (mostly) work Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, but we’re flexible and so long as we can meet our customers need, we can flex your work patterns to suit you.
- Based at our service in Sherwood House, Brandon in Durham you’ll spend your time travelling around the properties in our patch, predominantly across the Co Durham Area.
- Occasionally travel outside of our patch / service to work on a property that you may not have worked on before, or when we have an all hands-on deck situation.
- You’ll need a Standard DBS check done and we pay for that.
