What You’ll Do

Working as part of a busy team, the purpose of the Grounds Maintenance Operative is to carry out a range of horticultural duties to support the running of the contract. This includes grass cutting, hedge cutting, spraying, and general grounds maintenance duties as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grounds Maintenance: Perform routine and specialised grounds maintenance tasks, including litter picking, mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, spraying, and pruning, whilst adhering to best practices.
  • Equipment & Site Management: Ensure vehicles, machinery, tools, and work sites are clean, well-maintained, and presentable. Report any damaged or lost items to your manager promptly.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work collaboratively with your team to deliver high-quality results. Communicate clearly with managers and colleagues to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Compliance & Procedures: Adhere to all company systems, procedures, and technological solutions for capturing and recording work.
  • Attendance & Appearance: Ensure consistent attendance and maintain a professional appearance by wearing appropriate corporate clothing.
  • Health & Safety: Comply with the company’s Health & Safety and Environmental policies. Report any accidents, near misses, or hazards promptly, and assess work areas to implement necessary control measures.
  • PPE & Risk Management: Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately and follow risk and COSHH assessments to ensure safe working practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively seek opportunities to improve work processes and outcomes. Participate in training to enhance skills and performance.

Innovation & Efficiency: Propose innovative ideas for improving work methods and minimising waste to help control company costs.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Competence in operating equipment (machinery & vehicle) in line with experience and training.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • A sound understanding of Health and Safety practices.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • A full, UK driving licence.

Desirable Knowledge And Skills

  • Practical experience in grounds maintenance.
  • Formal horticultural qualifications.
  • Spraying qualifications (PA1 & PA6)
