Overview

The Functional Skills Tutor will deliver and assess Functional Skills (FS) English and Maths qualifications to students requiring these skills, up to and including Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) in order to complete Level 2 or 3 apprenticeship programmes. Using pre-prepared learning materials and working as part of a team you will support delivery of these key qualifications to apprentices and other groups of learners as required.

 

You will have the ability to manage the teaching; coaching and additional support for learners. Your role will be to support the training delivery team to ensure learner achievement and enable equality of opportunity for learners to reach their full potential.


You will report to the Training, Quality and Delivery Senior Manager and be part of the CMN Training Team. You will have apprenticeship experience as well as a proven ability in teaching Maths and English to achieve high quality outcomes for learners whilst delivering year-on-year improvements in effectiveness and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the achievement of FS English and/or Maths qualifications for an allocated cohort of learners as required and agreed with the Training Delivery and Quality Manager.
  2. Responsible for the management of allocated cohort of learners through the supporting, monitoring, recording, tracking and regular reporting of learner progress towards the achievement of FS qualifications. Ensure the successful and timely completion and progression of apprentice’s and other learners within allocated caseloads.
  3. Identify learners with Additional Learning Support (ALS) needs, complete required funding paperwork and deliver additional support as required.
  4. Ensure learner records, information and data is kept up to date, secure (Data Protection) and relevant through utilisation of training team systems and processes.
  5. To undertake and administer all paperwork related to learning and training for learners within allocated caseload, maintaining all course and related documentation, including course/lesson plans and responsible for the completion of the FS Individual Learning Plan for each learner within the allocated caseload.
  6. Responsible for the delivery of tutorials on specific FS related subjects as agreed with line manager (mostly delivered online).
  7. Support Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) duties in conjunction with other Assessors as allocated by the Training Delivery and Quality Manager.
  8. To work with other colleagues as required and directed, to promote the achievement of Functional Skills.
  9. Liaise with the project teams to facilitate suitable progression opportunities for participants across the range of CMN projects.
  10. Attendance at caseload reviews and standardisation meetings with Training Delivery and Quality Manager.
  11. Utilise online platforms such as the CMN e-portfolio (VQ Manager), Teams and/or Google Classrooms in delivering an efficient and auditable apprenticeship support service (training will be provided).
  12. Promote CMN training offers to prospective customers. 


Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum qualifications Level 3 (A level) including English and Maths minimum at GCSE.
  • Suitably qualified Teacher (PGCE, Level 3 Education and Training Award, L3 Teaching qualification).
  • Experience of delivering English and Maths to adults (minimum 2 years).
  • Experience of delivering via blended or distance learning.
  • In-depth knowledge of English and Maths “Reformed” standards and familiarity with associated assessment methodology.
  • Experience of engaging, enthusing and inspiring high achieving learners in English and Maths subjects.
  • Excellent subject area teaching strategies.
  • Experience of contextualising English and Maths and relating it to the main area of study.
  • Ability to work with adult learners with varying start points and prepare them for success at level 2.
  • Experience of delivering training online and face-to-face.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills with the ability to self-motivate; in particular, have excellent time management skills and have an ability to work towards challenging targets.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to relate to people at different levels of an organisation and excellent Customer Service skills. 
  • Flexible, adaptable, able to work on own initiative with can-do-attitude. 
  • Team player with an ability to work on tight deadlines as part of a close-knit team. 
  • Be based in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.
  • Able to perform well under pressure and excellent time-management skills.
  • High level of commitment to improving people’s lives through learning.
  • Good at multi-tasking and able to apply differentiation to support a range of learner needs.
  • Good IT skills.

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Assessors Award (or already working towards).
  • Experience in designing and developing curriculum for the specialist subject area.
  • Experience of teaching learners with additional support needs or SEND.
  • Passion for all things maritime and Cornwall.
  • Experience of supporting other teaching staff.
  • Experience of working with awarding organisations and Ofsted inspections.
