Westerfield College – a modern institution offering an exclusive boarding opportunity and a bespoke world-class learning journey – is seeking a Founding Head to work closely with the Board, Bursar and Senior Leadership Team to build the college, its results and its reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and managing the College.
- Overseeing the care and development of each Student and maintaining excellent academic standards within the College.
- Managing the pastoral care and welfare of all staff and Students.
- Leading on the overall financial performance of the College alongside the Bursar and meeting the annual budget agreed by the Governors.
- Leading, managing and motivating the Senior Leadership Team and, with them and through them, all academic and support staff.
- Appointing all staff.
- Overseeing the assessment, appraisal, guidance, support and professional development of all teaching staff with the objective of achieving inspirational teaching at all levels.
- Marketing the College, including fundraising, the production of publicity, literature and any advertising, the public relations profile, managing the Collegeʼs website and establishing positive relations with prospective parents.
- Recruiting a full complement of Students and overseeing admission and entrance procedures.
- Planning and implementing an effective curriculum and College timetable.
Skills and Experience
- A qualified, experienced graduate with a love of mentoring and an awareness of developments in the wider educational environment.
- Able to demonstrate authority and quality of leadership, leading by example, and commanding the respect of Students, staff, parents and the Board.
- Able to make and implement sound decisions in the best interest of the College.
- A passionate commitment to the academic, personal and social development of the Students and an understanding of their needs and concerns, ethnic backgrounds and parental ambitions.
- Able to uphold the Collegeʼs ethos and act with strong moral values and judgment.
- Appropriate resilience and self-confidence and able to inspire confidence whilst remaining considerate of the needs of others, with an ability to deal sensitively with conflict.
- Receptive and diplomatic in all dealings with parents.
- Able to display enthusiasm, energy and imagination, with the courage to innovate and an unwavering commitment to the continued development of the College.
- An open, empathetic and participative style with an inclusive and empowering approach to management leading to good delegation and with the ability to build trust and engender team spirit.
- A good listener with strong emotional intelligence skills and able to relate to, value, and communicate well with all members of the College community, individually and as a group.
- Well-organised with excellent time-management skills and the ability to work to a deadline.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Contract and Hours: Permanent, full-time.
Location: Abberley Village, Worcester, WR6 6DD.
