Job Description
Joining Defra Group Fleet Service as a Fleet Officer focussed on Finance and Business Management support is an exciting opportunity for anyone who would like to work in Defra Group Fleet Services, part of Corporate & National Services Directorate, and to directly contribute to us achieving our Fleet Strategy 2030, whilst ensuring we’re value for money.
With a focus on finance information and continuous improvement, your role will be to ensure the delivery of high-quality information to help the Business Management team report its financial positioning. You’ll also ensure our administration hub follow protocols to ensure financial transactions are processed in a correct and timely manner. The data and information you provide will be key to decision making so it’s important you have a good eye for detail.
The data and information you provide will enable us to ensure we maintain a cost-effective fleet whilst reducing our environmental footprint. It will also go towards supporting our legal and health & safety responsibilities.
You will be expected to support our data management processes and work alongside others in the department to improve upon quality and process. You will initiate and maintain good customer relationships with internal colleagues as well as customers in external organisations.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate. Please see the candidate pack for more on how you will support with this.
The team
Defra Group Fleet Services provide a collaborative fleet service to all organisations within the Defra group. The Business Management team is an executive support to the Fleet deputy director. It manages and uses information to plan our future direction to enable us to deliver the Fleet strategy and responds to corporate commissions. It also monitors fleet performance and ensures we adhere to corporate targets whilst using our resources wisely.
Experience/skills Required
We are looking for someone with the following experience:
As part of a national team the location is flexible. You may be required to work in EA offices and attend national meetings, possibly with some overnight stays. You'll understand and be comfortable with the challenges of remote working and management. The post is Full Time but requests for other working patterns will be considered.

- have experience of finance processes working in a large organisation, preferably government
- be able to use technology wisely to make your work more efficient
- deliver your work confidently, with a focus on quality and attention to detail
- have good planning skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver to tight timescales
- excellent and effective communication skills and good organisational skills
- have evidence of customer focused attitude
- be able to review processes and procedures for fit-for-purpose and continuous improvement
- have previous finance administration experience and knowledge of SSCL SOP systems (desirable)
