About The Role
As a Financial Services Officer, you will work within NHS Highland’s Financial Services team, covering a range of financial transactions, with a focus on Accounts Payable and Cashier Services. Working between Assynt House and Raigmore Hospital you will:
- Maintain financial records and process invoices, ensuring transactions are coded correctly and in line with NHS financial procedures.
- Liaise with suppliers, patients, and NHS staff to resolve financial queries efficiently and professionally.
- Ensure security and compliance, particularly when handling cash, banking, and processing financial transactions.
- Support patient travel services, checking, processing, and authorising travel claims while ensuring patients meet eligibility requirements.
- Arrange patient transport, including flights, trains, and accommodation, often at short notice, liaising with hospitals, medical staff, and travel providers.
- Work within the hospital cash office, handling financial transactions such as reconciling cash, processing payments, and managing patient funds.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual who can work effectively within a financial environment while providing essential support to patients. You should have:
- Experience in financial administration ideally in accounts payable, accounts receivable, cashiering, or patient travel services.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills the ability to support patients and families in sometimes stressful situations, providing clear and empathetic guidance.
- Strong numerical and problem-solving skills ensuring accuracy in financial transactions and the ability to resolve discrepancies.
- Confidence handling cash and financial transactions including banking, reconciliations, and secure storage of funds.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail working with high volumes of transactions, meeting deadlines, and ensuring compliance with NHS financial procedures.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team particularly in the cash office, where you may be responsible for managing transactions without direct supervision.
- IT skills and experience using financial systems knowledge of finance software, Excel, and database management would be beneficial.
