Job Summary
This position supports the Facilities and Engineering Manager in ensuring that all building and equipment technical requirements are effectively managed, either directly or through external suppliers, with a strong emphasis on warehouse hardware and automated systems. The role is critical to maintaining the highest standards of operational performance across all systems and equipment within the Facilities and Engineering Department’s scope.
The Facilities and Engineering Department has exclusive access to a fully equipped, modern workshop, as well as a comprehensive store of spare parts and materials. These resources enable the team to consistently deliver work of the highest standard.
Successful candidates will also have access to training opportunities through the Knapp Training Academy, covering areas such as mechanical and electrical systems, OSR shuttle maintenance, BUS basics, and e-diagrams. Additional training may include First Aid, working at height, and MEWP certification.
Requirement for out-of-hours working for site callouts, emergency equipment repairs with overtime. Scheduled maintenance requirements outside of operational hours; typically, scheduled maintenance requirements may include but not limited to four Saturdays a year and two 1PM-10PM shifts four times a year.
What does this role involve
Warehouse Systems & Equipment
- Work alongside the Facilities and Engineering Manager to maximise uptime of warehouse automated systems through planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, issue resolution, and repairs.
- Develop a strong understanding of warehouse systems and building infrastructure, including MHE, automation hardware and software, SCADA, and CMMS.
- Collaborate with supplier technical teams to identify root causes and implement preventative solutions.
- To conduct planned preventative maintenance aligned with Knapp and OEM requirements.
- Act as the first point of contact in the event of a process or equipment malfunction, ranging from jammed totes to faulty motors, sensors, or control systems.
- Take responsibility for prioritising diagnosis and identifying the quickest route to resolution. Depending on the issue, this may involve guidance from the Facilities and Engineering Manager, escalation to external service desks, or direct resolution in collaboration with the operations team.
- Keep accurate records of all PPM, reactive maintenance and spares consumption using CMMS and other bespoke systems.
- To track and report defects, repair times, root cause and where available, associated costs to the Facilities and Engineering Manager.
Facilities Management / Maintenance
- Support the maintenance and operation of core building systems, including electrical and mechanical infrastructure, HVAC, sprinkler and fire protection systems, security alarms, access control, and lighting controls.
- Conducting the maintenance of all warehouse and office related ancillary systems.
- Keep accurate records of all compliance checks, PPM, reactive maintenance and spares consumption using CMMS and other bespoke systems.
- Manage & review RAMS process for all on site works.
What are we looking for:
- Apprentice trained to NVQ level 3 preferred but not essential.
- Practical mechanical/electrical experience.
- Ambition to learn and develop engineering skills.
- Pragmatic approach to problem solving.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Reliable and dependable with the ability to cope and problem solve under pressure to keep operations running.
- Inquisitive mind, capable of learning quickly.
- Strong IT skills, including Word and Excel.
- Organised and competent at record-keeping and documentation.
- Experience and knowledge of H&S in a warehouse environment.
