As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services group (GMNS), the Network & Acquirer Solutions (NAS) team is at the core of American Express, uniquely positioned to support every business unit and customer across the Enterprise. The American Express Network enables over $1.6 trillion in annual spend, serving our Issuers and Acquirers in more than 170 markets worldwide. We are driving a strategic, multi-year Enterprise Payments program to bring all payments together into a centre of excellence to drive operational excellence for payment execution, enable innovative payment products, services, and capabilities to be built effectively and efficiently, support our BU strategies more closely, and deliver on our customers’ evolving payment needs.



How will you make an impact in the role?


The role of Enterprise Payments, Manager Quality Engineering is an exciting opportunity for a talented Quality Engineering manager to define the product test strategy and roadmap to deliver a best-in-class enterprise payment service for American Express. The incumbent will be a central member of the Enterprise Payments COE that is tasked with driving an enterprise critical multi-year Multi-Rail Payments program established to (1) accelerate the development of our enterprise payment services and (2) redesign the operating model surrounding it to drive excellence in payment execution. This role will help to reshape and transform how payment products are built and delivered at American Express. The Manager, Quality Engineering will collaborate closely with Business, Delivery, and Technology to ensure the highest quality delivery of the product vision and roadmap for Enterprise Payments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manages and leads a team of Quality Engineering colleagues, enabling a culture of continuous learning, growth opportunities, and inclusivity for all individual colleagues and teams
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and coaching to Quality Engineering teams, technology and product teams to support training and development of best practices
  • Recruits colleagues with relevant experience, and develops, rewards, and energizes an effective team
  • Develops and drives comprehensive automation and test strategies, focusing on optimizing and virtualizing processes, tools, and methodologies
  • Oversees all testing activities within the portfolio, collaborating with stakeholders and end-to-end delivery test teams to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Aligns with senior technology and product leaders to drive continuous improvements in operational quality and performance, ensuring alignment with business goals and technology roadmaps
  • Collaborates with development and product teams to drive improvements in overall quality, automation, and testing processes, implementing innovative solutions
  • Enhances continuous integration/continuous deployment capabilities for the portfolio, working with enterprise teams to improve metrics, and ensure adherence to development pipeline standards
  • Establishes and manages product quality standards and metrics, collecting and reporting data to identify patterns, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Leads the innovation and optimization of testing processes, tools, and methodologies, including virtualization and automation strategies
  • Understands the platform roadmap and quality priorities, proactively envisioning scalable, resilient, high-performing solutions
  • Collaborates and co-creates effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Software engineering and product leadership experience or a related job, with a focus on quality engineering

  • Experience in driving technical initiatives and projects

  • Experience in writing test cases, running functional, automated, or performance tests, and managing and mitigating defects

  • Experience in Software Development Life Cycle (test, defect, reporting and metrics, etc.)

  • Experience in continuous integration/continuous deployment and continuous testing capabilities, version control and service virtualization

  • Experience in quality scanning tools, ability to baseline and measure on-going quality metrics, and display via Dashboards

  • Experience in working with the core tools used in the planning, analyzing, crafting, building, testing, configuring, and maintaining of assigned application(s)

  • Experience in application programming interface testing, accessibility testing, chaos testing, security testing, performance testing, user interface testing, disaster recovery and relevant frameworks
