Appointment Type: Permanent

Salary: Grade 9 £37,938 – £40,476 per annum

Hours: 37 per week

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, professional and enthusiastic Emergency Planning Officer to join a small friendly team, based within Public Health & Wellbeing, ensuring that the Council is ready and able to respond to any number of disruptive challenges and emergency situations affecting Dudley, as defined under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

This role will be key to the ongoing work of the team to meet the challenges for the future with regards to emergency management duties and supporting the business continuity function for the whole organisation.

This role requires some work outside of normal office hours and participation in the service’s 24/7 on-call duty rota is expected.

You will have previous resilience and business continuity experience preferably in a Local Government and/or a multi-agency setting and be:

  • expected to lead on emergency planning and business continuity workstreams;
  • experienced in coordinating the response to emergencies;
  • an excellent communicator, confident in engaging with people within different communities and able to develop networks with colleagues and partners;
  • expected to design and deliver training and exercises;
  • well organised and have excellent attention to detail;
  • able to work as part of a team, and individually, and prioritise an interesting and varied workload;
  • a quick-learner and a desire to make a difference;
  • good at working under pressure, working flexibly and at pace.


This is an agile working role which may involve working from home as well as in the office.

You must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to your own transport. You are required to be within an hour’s drive of Dudley Borough during on-call duty periods.
