The role
As an Electrical Test Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. you’ll be part of a specialist commissioning team responsible for testing and calibrating electrical systems on Royal Navy submarines. This is a hands-on engineering role where your work directly contributes to national security, ensuring our vessels are safe, reliable, and mission-ready.
Day-to-day You’ll Be
Essential Experience Of The Electrical Test Engineer
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.

Day-to-day You’ll Be
- Conducting commissioning, testing and calibration activities on submarine electrical systems
- Supporting the Senior Test Engineer to optimise team performance
- Applying nuclear safety protocols and ensuring compliance with Clyde Safety Management Arrangements
- Producing technical documentation and test reports
- Diagnosing electrical faults and maintaining high safety and quality standards
Essential Experience Of The Electrical Test Engineer
- Strong electrical diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Effective interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
- Understanding of commissioning processes (desirable but not essential)
- Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC
- However, those with proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline will also be considered.
