Overview
AtkinsRéalis provides drainage design services to Highway, Rail, Private Developer, Energy and Water markets with some of our key clients being HS2, Highways England and Network Rail along with many of the UK's water companies. Due to practice expansion, we require a Drainage Design Specialist to join our teams operating from across the UK. We are looking for a strong collaborator, capable of supporting teams and delivering on remote projects as part of our national Practice.

The role will have key responsibilities relating to business performance, business resilience and technical reputation and will contribute to the implementation of business strategy. Key responsibilities include:
Technical Duties
The successful candidate shall demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the drainage sector, excellent technical skills and have a proven track record of business development, client management, project management and line management. You will be required to undertake a key role in the design of drainage Infrastructure, Transportation and Private Developer projects with emphasis on highway drainage and development drainage including SuDS. As well as delivering the drainage design, you will be responsible in supporting the leadership and development of our drainage design capability.

Your role

Technical Duties
- Assume Technical Lead role on projects to ensure AtkinsRéalis delivers Smarter, Faster and More Reliable outcomes for its clients.
- Undertake Project Director role on projects where required.
- Undertake Programme / Framework Manager roles on strategic / multi-disciplinary projects.
- Actively encourage staff to participate in, and contribute to, internal best practice forums, and external profile-raising activities.
- Promote staff development through training, on-the-job experience, and personal development.
- Actively encourage Team integration.
- Ensure compliance with corporate standards and policies.
- Client Relationship Development with our key Water Company and non-Water Company clients with the strategic growth of both revenue and margin.
- Promote the merge of more traditional engineering skills with innovative digital methods.
- Management / technical support of bidding opportunities to win work and identify and mitigate risks.

As well as delivering the drainage design, you will be responsible in supporting the leadership and development of our drainage design capability.
The successful candidate should be degree qualified, have appropriate professional qualifications, and have a broad range of experience in:
- Leading the design of drainage designs from concept to detailed design and construction, as stand-alone projects or as part of larger multi-disciplinary schemes.
- Promoting development of digital solutions in drainage design including full integration of designs within the BIM environment.
- Overseeing and reviewing the production of drainage designs, models, calculations and drawings to relevant standards, including providing technical assurance of designs.
- Determining and assigning drainage design tasks and managing delivery to programme and budget.
- Leading and encouraging the technical development of graduates and technicians in the drainage discipline.
- Ensuring compliance with business management standards set in the company's quality, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Managing and developing stakeholder relationships to support the development of the drainage design and consents process.
- Supporting the drainage discipline locally to develop and enhance the drainage design capability within the local team.
- Leading drainage designs, managing the interface and providing technical assurance for drainage designs produced in our Global Design Centre.
- Championing the role of drainage within a multi-disciplinary project.
- Mentoring and supporting the development of engineers, graduates and technicians in the field of drainage design.
- Providing technical input to the preparation of bids including provision of Quality Submission responses on drainage strategy and design approach and input to price via preparation of fee proposals and associated program for delivery including assessment of risk.
- Demonstrable track record of technical achievement and client satisfaction within the design industry.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Positive outlook and approachable manner.
- Capable of building and maintaining strong relationships with internal staff and external Clients.
- Ability to be flexible and to be able to multi-task and prioritise when necessary.
- Full clean UK driving licence.
