The role

SSEN is looking to hire a Director of SHE in any SSEN location. The Director of SHE will define and implement the safety, health and wellbeing strategy, the operational safety management system, and manage environmental risk, to ensure the Distribution business can successfully drive performance to deliver safe outcomes and meet safety, health, and environment targets

You will

  • Ensure that the Health, Wellbeing & Safety strategy underpins the current price control business plan, the 10 year capital growth projections meeting government Clean Power 2030 commitments, ensuring Health, Wellbeing & Safety compliance at all times
  • Have operational accountability for development, implementation, monitoring and reporting on environmental performance, targets and compliance standards across Distribution to ensure legal and regulatory environmental obligations are met
  • Share enterprise accountability for the overall strategic planning and execution of the regulated business plan, meeting SSE plc financial, operational and performance expectations, and Ofgem’s price control business plan commitments and regulatory outputs
  • Shape and lead a safety first culture on all sites, within all office locations and asset facilities, across one workforce community all working with pride to improve network asset health of reliability and performance to deliver safe and excellent customer service
  • Work collaboratively with the Networks Director to ensure effective Process Safety Management is implemented to improve business efficiency, control operational risk, mitigate financial and legal risk, prevent major incidents

You have

  • A detailed technical knowledge of operational risk (Electrical, Process safety) in a high hazard industry,
  • Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health and Safety Management and/or hold a scientific, environmental, civil, electrical or mechanical engineering qualification or comprehensive and extensive industry experience
  • Chartered member of IOSH or equivalent professional body
  • Detailed knowledge of all UK Health and Safety primary and secondary legislation, including Construction, Design and Management regulations (2015), Working At Height Regs (2005), Lifting Operations and Lifting equipment Regs (1998) etc and the six core workplace safety regulations, (Manual Handling, DSE, PPE) etc
  • Have led and operated at a senior management/executive level
