The role:

Reporting to the CTO, the Director of Cyber Security is the most senior Cyber Security role within Pulsant, responsible for protecting both Pulsant’s business and the services we provide to our clients from security threats and vulnerabilities. This person will drive, evolve and ensuring adherence to our Cyber Security strategy and they will manage the total security threat landscape. This is a pivotal role for Pulsant, providing the opportunity to shape, direct and lead the existing small team and external partners and lead across the entire organisation to protect Pulsant against cyber risks and manage the security of our systems and data.


With 14 data centre locations hosting infrastructure for over 1000 clients, our own cloud platform and network infrastructure, this role must provide visible leadership, engaging internally and externally to anticipate changes to the threat landscape and to ensure that our approach to cyber security is well understood and governed.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead on the development and execution of Pulsant’s Cyber Security strategy. Ensuring Pulsant has strong industry communication channels and knowledge to remain ahead of the changing landscape and progressive threats, to minimise risk to Pulsant and its clients
  • Develop and lead the small inhouse Cyber Security team, working closely with third parties to drive delivery on strategic and operational priorities
  • Engage with Pulsant leaders and specialists to ensure that products and services are developed and run in line with Cyber Security best practice
  • Working in partnership with the Risk and Assurance team and Corporate IT using a framework for regular detailed Information Security & Cyber risk assessments and owning the planning & implementation of actions necessary to minimise threats and vulnerabilities
  • Horizon scanning and providing thought leadership on the latest IT Security innovations and keeping abreast of latest cyber security technologies, risks and industry best practice to mitigate or manage these giving Pulsant a voice in the industry in relation to this
  • Lead and oversee the security relationships with key suppliers and partners in relation to the security services delivered
  • Establish and ensuring adherence, across the whole business, to our standard methods and approach to ensure our infrastructure, systems and services comply with the relevant current security standards and protocols
  • Working with the Risk & Assurance team, support the requirement for compliance to both partner and external security accreditations, e.g. CE+ and ISO27001
  • Present and lead on key insight for all areas of the Pulsant business. Educate and evangelise with regards to appropriate security measures in all aspects of our business
  • Mentoring, coaching, management support and development including annual reviews, evaluations and reporting of individual performance targets for team members
  • Work closely with the product and pre-sales teams to outline Pulsant’s security position and standards for new clients and/or large complex bid requirements, undertaking client presentations and engagements as necessary
  • Engaging with shareholders and insurers to outline Pulsant’s Information and Cyber Security policies, procedures, metrics and future improvement roadmaps.


What / who we're looking for:

The Director of Cyber Security is a visible presence both inside and outside Pulsant. With relevant technical and Information Security related academic qualifications and professional development, coupled with leadership experience. They are not only a subject matter expert, but also confident to deploy their expertise to support Pulsant both internally and with all external stakeholders, including our Board and external stakeholders such as Insurers and clients. Some of key things we're looking for in this person are:


  • Proven experience leading, developing, and motivating cyber security teams
  • Strong track record engaging with senior internal/external stakeholders and third-party cyber service providers (SOC, SIEM, Vulnerability, Incident Management)
  • Expertise in defining and implementing enterprise-wide cyber security strategies
  • Recognised cyber security leader with experience in commercial environments, able to represent the organisation confidently
  • Skilled at driving cultural change, influencing stakeholders, and providing thought leadership
  • Up-to-date knowledge of emerging threats, risks, and best practices in cyber and information security
  • Experience in budget ownership, cost control, and delivering measurable improvements/KPIs
  • Deep knowledge of security frameworks and standards (NIST CSF, ISO 27001, ISO 27032, PCI-DSS, PAS 555, Cyber Essentials)
  • Excellent relationship management, influencing and communication skills; commercially astute, logical, resilient, and solutions-focused
  • Degree in Technical/Information Security (or equivalent experience) plus at least two relevant certifications:
  • CEH, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM, CISA, NCSF, CHFI
