The Role & What You Will Be Doing

Every day, we rise to the challenge to make a difference, and as our European Lead for Patient Access & Alliance Development, you’ll play a vital role driving our mission. This is your opportunity to drive meaningful partnerships with patient organizations, influence policy, and make a real impact on health outcomes.

The Director, European Patient Access & Alliance Development will be the face of Viatris in the patient organization advocacy space, forging strategic partnerships with patient organizations across Europe, to support our access mission, our commercial objectives and policy positions to enhance patient outcomes. Your mission? Position Viatris as partner of choice in key therapeutic areas to expand access to medicines—with the goal of improving patient outcomes at scale. You’ll need strong business acumen and a deep understanding of how patient organizations, health policy, reimbursement, advocacy, and government relations connect. You’ll also build and lead Viatris’ European Patient Access & Alliance Development network, in collaboration with European and Global colleagues, defining objectives, shaping strategies, and leading impactful communications. We are looking at this individual to help ensure the patient voice is integrated into all facets of our organization’s activities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about patient-centric approaches and excel in strategic collaboration. This pivotal role sits on the European Corporate Affairs Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Head of Corporate Affairs for Europe, and will also work closely with global Corporate Affairs and other relevant function to ensure organizational alignment.

The Director, European Patient Access & Alliance Development must:

  • Lead and coordinate Viatris’ strategy for engaging patient organizations across Europe, in alignment with the company´s global strategy, to support corporate, therapeutic, and reputational objectives.
  • Develop and manage partnerships with European patient groups, advocacy coalitions, policy organizations, and key opinion leaders to enhance access, shape health policy, and drive better patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate the Viatris Europe Patient Access European network, setting goals, procedures, and messaging in collaboration with regional stakeholders, and ensuring timely, relevant engagements.
  • Support key business initiatives, including product launches, corporate campaigns, executive visibility, and issues management by engaging and educating external partners.
  • Drive patient insights and empowerment, gathering input on access barriers, MA/HTA processes, health policy, and supporting health literacy, disease education, and patient solutions.
  • Ensure compliance and impact, managing the budget responsibly, maintaining transparent and ethical partnerships, and ensuring patient perspectives remains at the forefront of Viatris' culture and decisions.


About Your Skills & Experience

For this role, we’re looking for a candidate who has an effective combination of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:

  • Patient-centric mindset: Prioritizing the needs, preferences, and insights of patient organizations in every decision
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Relevant Experience: 5–8 years in the European pharma industry with 3–5 years specifically in patient access roles, including hands-on advocacy work and access strategy implementation for both pre-launch and commercialized products.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Project & Stakeholder Management: Capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while building trusted relationships with patient groups, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Leadership & Flexibility: A collaborative team player with leadership abilities, adaptable style, and a quick learning curve to navigate complex challenges and new information.
  • Mobility & Language: Willingness to travel for advocacy events and meetings; fluency in English is required.
