We're seeking someone to join our Skyfall MKS team as an engineer in RPE to help with the design, build and deployment of the next generation of containerised trading infrastructure.

RPE Plant Management group ( PLM ) is looking for a System Reliability Engineer to drive the Reliability engineering, Operational support, and customer consultation services for several key products.
Reporting to the PLM SRE management, this role requires growing SRE capabilities to deliver reliable systems, without wasteful operational effort, and understanding RPE products front to back to maximize user productivity across the Firm.
This is a combined prod-side operational role and development role, providing a blend of support and engineering to a variety of systems that sit within the PLM arena. This will allow the systems and platforms to scale, to be more supportable, more reliable, and have an increased feature set.
The systems being engineered and core skillsets are detailed below.

Key Expectations From This Role Are
- Helping to create and manage the departments multi-tenant Kubernetes platform so that applications across the firm’s technology space can be successfully onboarded and managed
- Engineering the firm’s data science platform so that it follow industry wide SRE guidelines, that allows for the continued growth and stability of the platform, as well as helping to add new features and onboard services. This involves a blend of creating and configuring components, looking for solutions to known faults, scripting and code changes to allow for integration of products.
- Problem solving and development changes to the firms ready for business ( RFB ) system to reduce downtime and increase the granularity and definition of system checks for all applications
- Working with the clients of PLM to understand what their requirements are, developing solutions to those problems and adding input to conversations on making the required improvements that the stakeholders want
- Building and maintaining knowledge of front to back of Morgan Stanley Plant Management’s support applications and environment
- Maximizing the availability and performance of supported systems through optimized and automated plant management, ongoing problem management, and architecture reviews with dev-side peers
- Reduction of the cost of support (hours of effort) through the elimination of operational issues, optimization and automation of tasks, development of operational tools and driving client self-service to minimize constraints.
- Identification and prioritization of technical debt that is impacting client (i.e. other members of Morgan Stanley Technology) productivity, system reliability or the efficiency of the wider support team.
- Collaboration with other SREs in Resilience Engineering and Plant Controls to share solutions.
- Complex troubleshooting of front-to-back issues
- Maximize Ops team product knowledge and support capabilities to minimize the escalation rate to the department’s feature engineers/developers.
- Consulting with clients (the Firms Technology community) to maximize productivity, including troubleshooting their issues with using Plant Management's solutions.
- Experimentation with new tools and techniques
- Being operationally responsive, including sharing on-call rotation with the rest of the global team (with a time-off in lieu system) as an escalation point of contact.
Good knowledge of the sales and trading business and the product types is highly beneficial.
Skills Required
- Strong Linux troubleshooting skills
- Hands-on development experience in Python or other programming languages.
- Ability to write technical documentation.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK Stack.
