OKKO Health

Date: 4 weeks ago
City: Bristol
Contract type: Full time
Job Title: Digital Product Designer

Location: Bristol office base with flexible working available

Team: Product

Salary: £40,000-£50,000

About OKKO

OKKO Health is a seed stage start-up building technology to protect sight and prevent avoidable blindness through data-driven remote vision monitoring. Our Software-as-a-Medical-Device (SaMD) platform brings together clinical science and game-like engagement to help patients and clinicians worldwide. We are now looking for a Digital Product Designer who can drive and manage our end-to-end user experience. If you enjoy deeply understanding user needs, turning these into impactful, delightful experiences, and want to make a real difference in eye health, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities -

Visual and Interaction Design

Creating digital experiences across web and mobile that balance accessibility needs (especially for sight-impaired users) with engaging, intuitive design. Develop and maintain a consistent design system, utilising UX best practices, ensuring the intended look and feel translates well across web and mobile.

User Research

Leading on user research, utilising a mix of quantitative and qualitative tools to uncover pain points and new opportunities. Comfortable operating in both the problem and solution space, engaging directly with patients and clinicians to understand their needs and validate solutions.

Prototyping

Employing design as a tool to enable us to rapidly learn. Responsible for generating prototypes and mockups to help effectively communicate our ideas and potential solutions, both internally and externally.

Cross-functional Collaboration

Partnering directly with Product Management, Engineering and Data teams to ensure we're focused on the highest impact opportunities, clear on what success looks like and collectively delivering meaningful change to the patient and clinician experience.

Regulatory Adherence

Ensuring our end-to-end user experience is always compliant with relevant healthcare standards. Although direct healthcare or SaMD experience is not mandatory (though highly beneficial), you should be comfortable learning about and adapting design solutions to meet compliance and safety requirements IEC:62304 & IEC:62366

What we’re looking for -

Essential Skills

  • Strong portfolio of design initiatives across mobile (web is a plus) showcasing visual and interaction design skills
  • Fluent in the use of Figma (or similar) to develop designs, prototypes and mockups
  • Confident in driving and synthesising user research, able to choose the right research method to match the insight needed
  • Familiarity with working as part of a cross-functional product team, with Product Management, Engineering and Data partners

Essential Behaviours

  • A brilliant communicator, able to inspire others through storytelling and visual communication
  • Someone who has a bias-to-action and thrives off seeing tangible progress
  • Someone who is keen to get in front of our users: patients and doctors and quickly learn about the sight-impaired and wider needs of our end user patients
  • Data-driven - you seek out data to evidence ideas and test hypotheses, and are always looking to measure the impact of your work
  • Commercially-minded - you can see the bigger picture and how your work drives the business forwards
  • Someone who is a self-starter, takes responsibility for their own personal development and contributes to team development
  • Willingness to travel internationally

Nice to Haves

  • Previous exposure to healthcare, regulated industries, or accessibility design is a big plus, but not essential

Why Join OKKO

  • Mission-Led

Your work will directly help people preserve their sight and detect sight-threatening conditions earlier.

  • Innovative Environment

We combine clinical research, data analytics, and engaging design to tackle eye health from multiple angles.

  • Collaborative Culture.

As a start-up, our team is small and biased towards action. You’ll be engaging with every team in the business to drive your own development and product success

  • Room to Grow.

As we expand our product and launch into new markets, there will be opportunities to shape the broader design strategy.

What we offer -

  • Salary of £40-50k + additional benefits

  • Expected professional growth in a dynamic, innovative environment
