Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 (Deputy Manager) within the new Health Protection Service (HPS)

The newly created HPS will work in partnership, to respond to health protection measures and threats as required. It is envisaged that the HPS will evolve over the year and the post holder will work, either at their designated work base or as part of an agile, patient-facing, outreach team at any location within North Wales.

The Health Protection Team will work alongside the other agencies such as Public Health Wales to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities for the people of North Wales.

The Deputy Manager will support the Team Manager and Clinical Service Manager in the clinical, operational management and staff development of the HPS.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, forward thinking experienced nurse with excellent organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the Health Protection Service, the post holder will work, either at their designated workbase or as part of an agile, patient-facing, outreach team at any location within North Wales

The Deputy Manager will support the Team Manager and Clinical Service Manager in the operational management of the Health Protection service. The post holder will be responsible for providing and improving services to assure BCUHB that patients, carers and staff requirements are met and to ensure services are achieving targets set nationally and by BCUHB. In the absence of the Team Manager, will be responsible for the operational management of staff within the Health Protection Service to facilitate the delivery of excellent practice and standards of service. To support the Clinical Service Manager in the development of the service to meet demands.

Contribute to the education, development and line management of other staff members (registrants and non-registrants).

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Managerial

  • Designated to take charge on a regular basis in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility for the management and organisation of the clinical area/ caseload.
  • Analyse complex clinical situations, which require analysis and where necessary interpret data leading to a decision being made on the viable options.
  • Will participate in an on call rota as and when required. Through effective delegation manage patients without direct supervision and ensure patients care needs are met across the defined clinical area.
  • Undertake delegated line management responsibilities of other team members including personal development planning and individual performance reviews in line with BCUHB policy.
  • Assist the senior managers to achieve the best use of clinical resources, ensuring an efficient and effective throughput of patients to the service for screening and sampling

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • 1st Level Nurse NMC Registration.
  • Evidence of a Degree level qualification or working towards this within an agreed time frame.
  • Evidence of CPD Holds or is actively working towards a relevant Post-graduate Diploma, Diploma to be completed within an agreed timeframe

Desirable criteria

  • Management qualification and /or management experience
  • Mentor/supervisor/assessor

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience of working either within the clinical speciality or a relevant nursing role
  • Relevant experience of Heath Protection

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Experience/knowledge of senior nurse role

Aptitude And Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to communicate and receive complex information
  • The ability to diagnose a problem and take corrective action
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to speak Welsh
  • IT Skills
